Breathe App Review Apple Watch watchOS 3 by Stig Severinsen from Breatheology

Apple is bringing more focus on breathing and relaxation. At the Apple World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco it has just been announced that a new app called “Breathe” will be available in the new watchOS3 software.
Very exciting news…
In this video Doctor Stig Severinsen – 4x Freediving World Champion and breathing enthusiast – gives a quick review of the features for the Breathe App for Apple Watch and explains about the general benefits of daily conscious breathing for better health and performance.

Hi I’m Stig Severinsen from Breatheology.com. Apple has just announced that the new software for the Apple watch has an app built in called “Breathe” – this is so exciting… first of all it goes to show that a global company like Apple actually takes breathing seriously – of course for thousands of years yogis and meditation- and mindfulness masters have known this but now it’s built into the app. So how does the app work?…Well, basically it uses graphic animation and anyone – without knowing about breathing or yoga techniques – can just follow so there is a green and blue graphic animation showing and you just follow the pattern.

So it’s super simple and what it’s built for – what Apple said – is for deep breathing – for relaxed deep breathing for your body-mind and to feel better and become more healthy. And they also have another feature in this app because it can also use tapping – it means that it gets you a little tap so if you want to close your eyes, lay down and rest you can still get guidance from the watch and what is even more important, I think, is that you can set it to give you daily reminders so you can actually start to create good habits and that is probably more powerful than anything else because in an everyday hectic life what do we do? We create bad habits and we forget to breathe, we forget to eat healthy, we forget to take a break and the feature of reminding you will – you know – allow you to plan your day and your week so it’s very powerful. And it even has a feature where it will tell you your pulse rate so your heart rate will be measured and at the end of the session it will actually have it recorded and show you the pulse rate. Now why is this interesting?

If you’re new to breathing or if you are a pro-athlete, it’ll track the summary of your training – so maybe after 1 week 2 weeks 3 weeks you can start to see the change. And that’s of course inspiring and self-motivating because then you are going like “wooouw – now I am really improving” and you start to feel those subtle changes also in your everyday life. And I think the main purpose is to actually handle stress better and to just feel overall health and well-being in a hectic life. So it’s exciting that now millions of people get access to the Breathe through the app that is built-in already to the watch. And I think the most powerful feature is actually not the graphics or the animation; it is actually the fact that the now you out there will get more conscious about breathing.

You will actually understand that it’s very important to focus just everyday a few minutes – even a few seconds – a few breaths on your well-being so…. just that alone 5 – 10 seconds will move you to a higher level of conscious breathing. And that again affects what you eat, how you speak with other people and how you engage with your surroundings. So it’s a very fascinating app that’s coming out – called “Breathe” – and I think it might even inspire people to go a bit further – you know – you might start looking for videos online, you might pick up a book on breathing or you might even go to a yoga studio because you want to learn more about breathing once you start to feel all the benefits on your everyday performance and health. And you might even want to go even deeper and start…say… for example I have a Breatheology Academy – it’s a 12-weeks training program – where thousands of people have gone through and they feel that change after weeks or months… so again it is not a quick-fix.

Remember that it’s the persistency that make this a powerful thing because you have these good habits that just continue continue to make you more relaxed the more happy. I hope you’ll find it interesting and I hope you’ll love to breathe a little bit more consciously everyday…
