Apple 2021 16" M1 MAX MacBook Pro Review | 32GB RAM 1TB SSD

My M1Max Macbook Pro Experience…

You see all these clickbait titles on YouTube right now for the M1 Macs, “Why I’m Returning my M1 Macbook Pro” “Why The M1 Max is a waste of money” “Go for the 14” M1 Macbook Pro” “Do You Need 32gb or 64gb of Ram” “Does it beat out the Intel Macs or PC’s”

Well I am here to say, “Here’s one more Click bait Title… This thing is no joke!”

I wasn’t really in the space for a new computer as I just upgraded to the Late 2019 16in Macbook Pro this last year. I got a refurbished 2.4 GHz 8-Core i9 2TB 32GB RAM 5600M 8GB dedicated graphics card. Pretty specced out and so far the fastest computer I had had to that date. But even that computer had a hard time with workflows between Adobe Premiere pro and After Effects. I use a FX6 and A7S III as my primary cameras and use the Highest codecs most of the time when shooting so I would have to keep rendering as I worked through the timelines and don’t get me started on not being able to see the clip art on in the finder windows.

That computer did its job and it worked really hard with the fans always kicking on when it had some stressful jobs going on. Color grading and motion effects would make it run like molasses and it sounded like it was trying to take off to the moon. It got hot and the battery drained pretty quick. But it worked…

I am a videographer, graphic designer, do websites and motion graphics, I am not working with crazy 8K files… at least not right now anyway. Time is money and every second counts. Also when you are waiting for things to render and have ADHD it is hard to complete a task. I found myself a lot of the time hitting the render button and then spending the next 30 minutes not working even after the render was done because I lost motivation on the project at hand then go back make an adjustment just to hit render again to be able to watch it back.

I saw a deal on Best Buy for an open box (I’m not above a good savings) M1MAX 16in Macbook Pro 1TB SSD with 32GB of ram and said yup buying that… I got it and immediately threw everything I could at it.. Canon R5 4K and 8K C-Log footage (The most strenuous footage on my Late 2019 Macbook) Breezed through the timeline in Premiere Pro, Then I added a color grade, No problems… at this point I was amazed already so I loaded some some A7SIII Clips and not to my surprise smooth as butter… I had no delays even at full resolution playback. And at this point you’re saying to yourself “Common where’s the bad at and I only have one gripe… After Effects. This is not yet optimized for the M1 Chip and as it is still fast and works just like my late 2019 Macbook Pro did in after effects. I am confident that it will be optimized soon and will work just as smoothly as Premiere Pro.

Ok let’s take a minute and talk about the actual computer now. We have ports and ohhhhh DID I MISS PORTS. We have a 3.5mm headphone jack on the right side of the computer again, A HDMI port! Three USB-C Thunderbolt ports and Thank GOD a UHS-II SD Card slot! It is so nice to be able to just throw a SD Card in and start working! The Keyboard is smooth and pretty quiet, the track pad is huge! The thing sounds great, I haven’t heard the fans kick up once as of yet and the Screen is the absolute best part of this thing. I now use the 16in M1 as my color accuracy/reference monitor next to my 32in LG 4K display on my desk. All around this is an amazing tool for anyone but especially those of us who are on the go and need a very powerful machine to do just about any job we throw at it!

So should you upgrade to the 2021 M1Max Macbook Pro? As always I think that comes down to your needs and budget but I would say that this is the most worth it upgrade I have made in the computer world in a long time. It’s FAST, a joy to use, and does whatever I throw at it as of now. So maybe its right for you too. Thanks for watching and I hope I was able to shed some light on why this computer is so great! Cheers!

Thanks for watching…
