The life of Li Tianlu, a master of puppet theater
Li Tianlu was born in Dadaocheng, Taipei during the Japanese Occupation on December 24, 1910. He studied puppet play with his father Xu Jinmu since he was a child. His father inherited from the master Xu Jinshui, a generation of famous puppet puppet master “Chen Po” in Quanzhou Nanguan puppet play. Li Tianlu was seven years old. I entered the “Tongwenzhai” to study Chinese. During the day, I read the ancient books and classics such as the Three-character Classic and Thousand Family Poems. Every afternoon, I followed my father to learn to walk and run wild stage opera. As long as Li Tianlu is careless, he will be used by his father. The puppets knock their heads or kick down the theater. Under the strict teaching of the puppets by famous teachers, they also created the internationally renowned puppet master “Li Tianlu”.
Since Li Tianlu was fourteen years old, because his father received a deposit from a local theater troupe, he could only live a life of running and moving in the vicinity of Wenshan, Shiding, and Shenkeng by himself. At first, he only played two roles: “Luo Dingliang” and “Quixing Killing the Monkey”. He also took advantage of the gap to return to Taipei to continue to learn from his father and add new men. In the past few years, Li Tianlu has also developed profound skills, and more and more people are watching.
At the age of eighteen, he returned to Taipei from Shidingshan District. He first formed the “Jade Garden Puppet Troupe” with the backcourt masters of “Youshan Mountain”, but finally disbanded for unknown reasons. He also served as the head of Nanguan Puppet Puppet Troupe “Longfeng Pavilion” and “Le Garden”. He also knows “Huang Haidai” and “Zhong Renxiang” who are big figures in the handicraft world, and they began to call each other brothers.
At the age of 20, she married Chen Cha, the daughter of Chen Alai, the host of “Le Garden”. After she was merged into the Suichen Mansion, she also began to buy a large number of Gaza and a four-corner theater when she was a pitcher in Le Garden. At the age of the year, he organized the “Yi Wanran” troupe to create another new stage. Until the age of 24, the famous puppet master Chen Po from Quanzhou, China, was invited to perform in Taiwan by Wu Awen, the host of Wanhua’s “Qiwen Pavilion”. Since the outbreak of the Sino-Japanese War, the Japanese Viceroy’s Office ordered Taiwan to ban puppet show performances, so Li Tianlu decided to temporarily seal the box, stop any performances in the troupe, and finally moved to the Taiwanese opera troupe as a rehearsal fairy. Until the 31st of the Republic of China, the Japanese government established the “Taiwan Drama Association” in Taiwan, allowing puppet shows to perform Japanese-style in-stage dramas in theaters, cooperating with the Japanese government to perform “Imperial People’s Dramas”, and joining the Japanese “Anglo-American Strike Force” Using puppet shows as a propaganda tool in Japan, they often secretly perform traditional operas to protect the lifeblood of traditional puppet shows in the Japanese war. Retreat to puppet show to form a diplomatic journey
At the end of 1970, due to the rise of television stations, the drama troupe “Yi Wanran” led by Huang Junxiong became an instant hit on the TV station. It also replaced the traditional puppet show, causing Li Tianlu’s “Yi Wanran” troupe to lose its competitiveness and began to retreat. In 1978, Li Tianlu disbanded “Yi Wanran”.
At that time, Li Tianlu met French professor Ban Wengan and agreed to let three Frenchmen come to Taiwan to learn puppet show from Li Tianlu. After learning for more than three years, since 1978, the three returned to France and established the “Xiaowanran” theater troupe. Puppet show can be performed all over the world, and Li Tianlu’s reputation began to spread in the international puppet show world. Later, more people from different countries began to come to learn art from different countries. After returning to China, these people also established “Ru Wanran” and “Ye Wanran”. Theatrical troupes such as “Ji Wanran” and “Ji Wanran” also started a series of puppet show diplomatic journeys internationally.
It was not until 1984 that many principals worked hard to make Banqiao Juguang Elementary School ignite the succession of “Yi Wanran” puppet show. The school selected 32 interested students and a number of puppet show masters taught the preparation skills. The next year Juguang Elementary School also announced that the puppet theater group was named “Yi Wanran” to show that the puppet theater in Taiwan can continue to take root.
Li Tianlu’s life, a dream of Taiwan’s history
In 1986, Director Hou happened to look for actors for the grandpa in the film “Love in the Wind”. It happened that Li Tianlu was also recommended by many people. Li Tianlu believed that he had acted in all the dramas in his life, but he had never acted in a movie, so he agreed to Hou. At the request of the director, he began to step into the film circle. Because Li Tianlu’s acting was very simple and natural, he eventually became a regular film crew.
In the end, Director Hou used the story of Li Tianlu’s youth as a blueprint to make a “Dream of Life” film and participated in the Cannes Film Festival in France. Li Tianlu led the Yiwan group to perform together, and finally won the jury award. This “Life of Li Tianlu, Taiwan History “Dream of Drama” also pushed Li Tianlu onto the world stage again.
