Grand Theft Auto V on macOS Big Sur 11.0.1 | CrossOver DXVK

The next big step for macOS Gaming is finally here, i’m proud to announce that you can finally play DirectX10-11 games on Macintosh! You can actually play Grand Theft Auto V on macOS now!

..well, with some tweaking of course. The game won’t run without any modifications. The main problem is the new Rockstar Games Launcher, which doesn’t work with Wine at all. The only way to get GTA V running without its Launcher dependency is to crack the executable. I’ve used the DVD version to install this game and upgraded it to patch 1.36 which has a working crack that completely removes the Social Club integration. I’m not a big fan of cracking games but that’s the only way to get it to work.

DXVK integration on macOS only works with CrossOver for now. It’s a paid application (38.00$) but allows you to play almost any new game on macOS! So i think it’s worth it and you also support the developers working on Wine.

Questions regarding performance:

I have multiple Hackintosh systems running macOS Big Sur. This one is the slowest of them:

Intel Core i5 3570 (Ivy Bridge)
ASUS AMD Radeon 570 4 GB VRAM
8 GB DDR3 RAM

If you’re using a modern Hackintosh system or Macintosh, you will expect much better performance.

The next step is to get hold of a Mac Mini with the new Apple M1 SoC and try out some more games.
