Mac Pro 4,1 & 5,1 with a MacOS Catalina and AMD Radeon 5700 XT Upgrade

Hey guys,

I have ben thing about this upgrade for a while after the Dual Xeon X5680 upgrades I did a few months ago.

Sadly the video footage was lost of the CPU upgrade as my Phone had been lifted the day after filming the video and I can say they are probably gone for good.

Anyways this was a Catalina upgrade very much a Painless upgrade and the 5700 XT was really a plug and play card with no Drivers need just booted up first go.

Maybe the last upgrade will be the RAM, I may upload this but I doubt it will be all that interesting.

Steps.
1. Download Catalina Patcher ( this is needed as the 5700 XT is only supported on MacOs Catalina 10.15.5

2. remove you none EFI Nvidia / AMD GPU’s (this seems to be optional as the Catalina installer dose a Direct install from the desktop but you will be flying blind if you don’t use the EFI card.

3. Before Installing Catalina you will need to Disable the csrutil, check out one of my other videos on how to disable this first

4. Link to Dosdudes Catalina patcher: dosdude1.com/catalina/

4. Now you can do the Catalina Installer

5. once the installation is complete you can installed the 5700 XT

6. This should be a plug and play method

The current Specs of the Mac Pro:

CPU: Dual Intel X5680,s 6 Core 12 threads each both running 3.33Ghz Maximum turbo frequency 3.06GHz (1 or 2 cores) 3.46 GHz (3 or more cores)

RAM: 40GB 1066Mhz DDR3

Storage: x2 500GB HDD General Storage, x1 200GB SSD for windows 10 boot, x1 2TB HDD used for Windows Games and a 500GB NVME SSD for Mac OS Catalina.

GPU: AMD Radeon 5700XT with the reference cooler

Upgrades to come RAM not all that exciting ¯_(ツ)_/¯
