What can I say I’m a sucker for new things… or am I? I don’t generally consider myself an Apple fanboy after all I don’t even own an iPhone and instead rely on a cheap dumb phone with a qwerty keyboard for sending SMS messages.

But to me the experience is everything and as Leonardo De Vinci said:

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

A moniker Steven Jobs sought to embody into all of Apple products.

This is what I see in my choice of machine. For me a tool should just work and be designed and engineered in such a way that allows creativity to be expressed easily.

So you can imagine how relieved I was to see that Apple had refreshed the Mac Pro and was again committed to developing tools for the professional market.

But is the Mac Pro 2019 that much faster than the previous generations of the 2013 “trashcan” and the 2010 “cheese grater?”

And is it worth the extra cost? Am I an idiot for upgrading my Mac Pro?

Well we decided that we would put them in a head-to-head test and we lined up a battery of tests in an area that matters to me as a filmmaker.

Namely how would they perform against each other on playback speed and rendering of 4K RAW media in Adobe Premiere, Davinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro X?
