During the latest Apple event in November we learned about the new M1 Chip which is the first ever Apple designed and engineered processor to be used in their lineup of mac computers. The M1 Chip is an SoC or single system on a chip with all of the M1 components from the cpu to the gpu being held within the M1 chip itself. The M1 chip is also known as an ARM based CPU which is similar to what is found in their iPad & iPhone but is the new M-Series which is now the future of Apple Mac Computers. 3 new mac’s which are the new 2020 M1 based MacBook Air, the 2020 M1 based MacBook Pro 13-inch, and finally the 2020 M1 based Mac Mini with all of the 3 apple mac computers to now be paired with Apple’s M1 Chip. One of the most interesting changes is that the new 2020 M1 MacBook Air is using the same M1 Chip in the base model of the M1 MacBook air as the 2020 13-inch M1 MacBook Pro. There is also the cheapest of the 3 Apple M1 Mac’s, the 2020 M1 Mac Mini which even saw a price drop compared to it’s predecessor 2019 Mac Mini using the Intel CPU and will also be using the same M1 chip within it as the 2020 M1 MacBook Air and 2020 M1 13-inch MacBook Pro. Performance gains between the M1 MacBook Air, M1 13-inch MacBook Pro, and M1 Mac Mini are different but all saw some boosts to performance when using the new Apple Silicon M1 chip. Apple’s M1 chip begins a new era for Mac computers being that the switch from Intel to Apple Silicon and the M-series of processors will be interesting to see what comes of this major change. So is the new Apple silicon worth the hype? Let’s talk about the new and exciting Apple M1 chip and the new M1 Mac computers!
