On Wednesday (9/22) Microsoft released the second generation of the new Surface Pro X. According to previous tests, the SQ2 processor on the second generation model is almost the same as the previous generation SQ1 in terms of performance and power consumption. There are too many differences, but new revelations point out that the next-generation SQ3 will not stand still, and there will be significant improvements in performance.

According to the foreign media “Wccftech”, the Microsoft SQ3 processor will be released by the end of this year (2021) at the earliest, and will use the same architecture as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 notebook ARM processor. From the South Korean “Naver” news, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 will be released in December this year, and SQ3 may also be released on a similar date.

In addition to Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 and SQ3, it is said that Qualcomm is also developing a new SC8280 ARM processor, and is pointing to Apple’s M1 processor, and SC8280 and Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 are different products and use different architectures.

According to the current running score information, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 will be 60% faster than the SQ2 based on Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2, which is almost equal to Intel’s Core i7-1160G7 notebook processor. In addition, it is not yet known which process will be used for the new SQ3 processor. Some sources believe that it may be Samsung’s (Samusng) 5nm improvement process.
