According to the technology website “9to5Mac”, Apple seems to have adopted a different hardware mechanism on the iPhone 13. If the user replaces the screen panel of the iPhone 13 through a third party, the Face ID will not be able to be used normally, which means that if the user has a future screen If the panel is damaged, such as broken, it can only be repaired through official pipelines.
This also means that users may need to spend NT$6,550~9,890 in the future to purchase maintenance-related services from Apple’s official website, or to start with Apple Care+ to reduce risks.
Some other parts have not been found to have similar problems so far. For example, it is still feasible to replace the microphone and will not affect the function of the iPhone 13.
However, in the past, Apple has also used similar protection mechanisms. For example, if users change the front lens by themselves, the security chip will no longer support Face ID. However, it is estimated that this will bring a negative impression to Europe and the United States, which are promoting maintenance autonomy. Many people in Europe and the United States and even the government have begun to advocate, hoping that manufacturers can provide greater maintenance flexibility from product design, so that users can handle it by themselves or more easily through third-party manufacturers.
Apple’s initial approach to this is to open up support for more small repairers, including providing training and original parts, but Apple still insists on safety reasons, and hopes that users should still try to repair products through official channels.
