Before app bundles, developers either created a single “fat” APK with all the libraries and resources in them or manually managed multiple APK variants (for example, arm64 320dpi, x86 320dpi, arm64 640dpi, etc.).

The new App Bundles allow developers to transfer the burden of dealing with variants to Google, which then splits the app release into multiple chunks – hence the term split APKs. Each release then consists of a base APK and one or more APK splits.

For example, a single release may now arrive as 5 files: base.apk + arm64.split.apk + 320dpi.split.apk + en-us.lang.split.apk + es-es.lang.split.apk.

Unfortunately, you can’t install all these APK splits by just tapping them on your device – you can only install the base APK, which will then crash due to missing resources.

Huawei app gallery and HMS core properties may interfere with functioning of split APKs / Android application bundles (AAB). The video demonstrates the necessary steps to bypass this conflict in order to install and achieve fully functional Split APK/AABs in your huawei harmony os 2.0. 0.0.16xx device.

It can interfere with the proper operation of xapk, obb and other bundled apps from petal search. Thus it is a potential problem for third party app stores such as Aurora Store, APK Pure, APK Mirror. This problem has not been officially reported in native GMS installed play store yet. Thus the same concerns may be pertinent.

XAPK, OBB, SPLIT APK application updates are more often used in Google play store, Aurora Store, APK Pure, Petal search etc. Although Huawei developers are able to use this approach harmony os 2 with hms, app gallery has not accommodated this method. Thus installed updates may crash given it does not have access to required components. This video offers a temporary solution. Do your own research and find additional solutions.
