In this video, a former Apple Tech explains what to do when your iPhone won’t turn on. First, we need to determine whether the issue is software or hardware related.
We begin by performing a hard reset, which may fix the problem if your iPhone’s software crashed. Sometimes, software crashes can cause your iPhone’s to turn black, making it appear as though your iPhone won’t turn on. If a hard reset works, it means that your iPhone was really on the entire time!
If your iPhone still is not turning on, take a look at your Lightning cable, iPhone charger, and Lightning port. Each of these components plays a critical role in the charging process, so if any of them stop working, your iPhone turn won’t be able to charge and, therefore, won’t turn on.

Next, try plugging your iPhone into your computer. Does iTunes recognize your iPhone? If it does, your display may be the problem. Immediately back up your iPhone it’s recognized by iTunes, then try performing another hard reset while your iPhone is plugged in.
Finally, check for physical damage. If you’ve recently dropped your iPhone, or if it has recently gotten wet, it may be the reason why your iPhone is not turning on. Visit your local Apple Store, or visit CellSavers to get it fixed ASAP.
