Preordering VW ID4 – Why I chose ID4 over Tesla Model Y

To be clear this is not a “comparison” video. Just my thought process.

EDIT:
1st Edition availability opened back up!!

I basically signed into my VW account and went through the vehicle configurator for a 1st edition instead of a “Pro S” edition. When I checked out the website simply updated my configuration to a 1st edition.

1st edition basically gives you the Pro S trim PLUS the wheel upgrade package (which I didn’t opt for int he video) for a total savings of $2000.
Total: 44,000 instead of 46000 (fully loaded) plus a few “1st edition” badging.

Overall my checkout price became 43,500 instead of 44,495 but got extra features: 20inch ally wheels, black painted roof, silver roof rail and accents.

Video goes through in detail the step by step process of ordering the ID4.
Discuss the trim levels, options, prices.

Also I discuss reasons why I went with the ID4 over the Model Y.

Naturally any car that comes out will be compared to the Model Y as that is the industry standard. I do not believe VW is trying to compete with the Model Y and with the federal tax incentive in place, they are clearly trying to undercut the Model Y and appeal to the average non-Tesla enthusiast.

In my opinion they got the formula right by providing a wide range of standard features at a reasonable and compelling price point.

What car would you go with and why? Is the base model Y worth almost 20k more than the ID4 for your situation/driving needs?
