Taiwanese media DigiTimes, who is familiar with the supplier situation, reported that mass production of sensors and parts for the new iPhone (tentative name: iPhone13, iPhone12s) will start in June.

Each supplier will start mass production in June

According to information obtained by DigiTimes from industry insiders, each supplier of sensor and camera parts for the iPhone is expected to decrease in April as the number of parts delivered for the iPhone 12 series decreased, and also in May. In response to that, it seems that mass production of parts for the iPhone 13 series will start from June.

Taiwan Win Semiconductors, which manufactures vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) chips designed by Lumentum, is expected to increase profits by updating the VCSEL chips for the iPhone 13 series.

In the iPhone13 series, it is rumored that the width of the front camera housing (notch) will become narrower due to the miniaturization of the Face ID unit that uses the VCSEL chip.

Demand for voice coil motors for driving lenses is expected to grow

In the iPhone13 series, the rear camera is expected to be improved, including the sensor shift type image stabilization mechanism installed in the iPhone13 and iPhone13 mini.

As a result, lens drive voice coil motor (VCM) suppliers such as Taiwan LARGAN Precision are expected to significantly increase shipments in the second half of 2021 (July-December).

DigiTimes also reports that not only Taiwanese suppliers but also Japanese VCM suppliers are planning to increase their production capacity by 30% to 40%.
