iOS 12.4.7 security update for older iPhones released

Settings app logoApple also does not leave the users of older iPhones that no longer support the latest version of iOS hanging and provides updates for the older generations of devices from time to time for download. As part of the iOS 13.5 update from last Wednesday, the iPhone manufacturer also released a security update for the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, which you should install soon.

No new functions, but more security

Experience has shown that Apple no longer delivers new features as part of the updates for older iPhone generations. However, such updates are particularly aimed at improving security, which is why you should not hesitate to install them. As I said, the update is now available for the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The release notes do not indicate which security-related changes actually apply. More detailed information can often be found in Apple’s official support documents a few days after publication. However, the list of safety instructions is not yet up to date.

Heavy mail app security gap closed?

After a major iOS vulnerability in the mail app became known a few weeks ago, however, it can be assumed that iOS 12.4.7 is primarily concerned with fixing this vulnerability. The bug enables attackers to execute malicious code using a manipulated email in order to read, change or delete content. The said mail only needs to be clicked on iOS 12. The spying takes place almost unnoticed. Therefore we can only recommend that you download the update soon.

Install iOS 12.4.7 update

As a reminder for everyone who does not (yet) know or maybe even forgot: To ensure that you do not lose any data during the update, you should create an iCloud backup or iTunes backup in advance. As always, you can trigger the update wirelessly on the iPhone in the Settings app under General → Software updates. With a tap on “Download and install” you start the download.
