Apple provides US$410 million to Optical Company II-VI, creating 700 jobs

Apple has more than doubled the amount awarded to II-VI from its Advanced Manufacturing Fund, and now it has paid an additional $410 million to the optical technology company that makes iPhone components, following the $390 million invested in it in 2017 Another funding afterwards. Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer, said in a statement:

“We have established the Apple Advanced Manufacturing Fund to support American companies in creating next-generation technologies and future jobs. II-VI is as committed to pushing the boundaries of innovation as we are, and we are proud to extend our work to all parts of the country. “

Apple’s previous awards focused on the establishment of II-VI’s factory in Sherman, Texas. The new project is expected to create more jobs in Sherman, in addition to Warren, New Jersey, Easton, Pennsylvania and Champagne, Illinois. In total, the newly expanded cooperation is expected to bring more than 700 new manufacturing jobs nationwide.

“The cooperation between Apple and II-VI has laid the foundation for a new round of breakthrough technologies. We believe that these technologies will be widely used and benefit our world in the next few decades,” II-VI CEO Said Dr. Vincent Matera Jr. “We are very grateful for Apple’s support, which allows us to expand our manufacturing capabilities and expand our business throughout the United States.

II-VI’s optical manufacturing technology is part of the way Face ID works, and application technologies such as Memoji, Animoji, and portrait mode selfies all come from this company. Apple is also working with the company to develop lasers used in LiDAR scanners to help produce faster and more realistic Apple AR.

Apple’s Advanced Manufacturing Fund previously provided funding to Corning, the maker of iPhone glass screens. In 2020, it invested 10 million U.S. dollars in the production of face masks against the coronavirus.
