Leaker John Prosser shared information about the new Mac mini, which is equipped with the new Apple Silicon “M1X” chip and has a smaller housing, on his YouTube channel “FRONT PAGE TECH”.
Smaller than the current model by not considering the installation of Intel processor
According to Prosser, the new Mac mini with the M1X chip has a smaller housing than the Mac mini with the M1 chip.
The reason is that the M1 chip-equipped Mac mini has the same housing as the Intel processor-equipped Mac mini, so there is plenty of room inside.
Prosser released an image of a Mac mini with an M1X chip, saying that if you specialize in Apple silicon, you can make the housing smaller without considering the installation of an Intel processor that generates a lot of heat.
Does it use the same power supply terminal as the new 24-inch iMac?
The power supply terminal of the Mac mini equipped with the M1X chip seems to use the same magnetic adsorption method as the new 24-inch iMac.
In addition, Mr. Prosser reports that there are two USB-A terminals, four Thunderbolt terminals, one HDMI terminal, and one Ethernet terminal on the back of the main unit. He predicts that no SD card slot will be installed.
It seems that a rubber anti-slip is attached to the bottom of the main body. As Prosser expected, the bottom of the Mac mini with the M1X chip looks like the new 24-inch iMac. The bottom of the new MacBook Air will have a similar design, Prosser said.
Prosser predicts that the top of the Mac mini with the M1X chip will be fitted with plexiglass instead of aluminum that is integrated with the sides.
From this, it is expected that the current Mac mini will access the internal logic board etc. from the bottom of the main body, but in the Mac mini equipped with the M1X chip, the top panel of the main body will be removed to access the inside.
Although it is uncertain whether it will be realized, it seems that Apple is considering making the plexiglass on the upper surface of the main body a different color from the aluminum housing and making it a two-tone color design.
Also mentions the new MacBook Pro
At the beginning of the video, Prosser also mentions the possibility of announcing the new MacBook Pro at the World Developers Conference (WWDC21).
