BMW plans to expand its subscription contract range to include seat heating functions, adaptive cruise control (ACC) and infotainment systems in the future, THE DRIVE reports.
Feature activation over the air
According to THE DRIVE, the subscription allows you to activate features using the My BMW mobile app.
It seems that the subscription contract includes “seat heater,” “adaptive high beam (automatic high beam function),” “engine sound that can be selected by adaptive sound design,” and “adaptive cruise control (ACC).”
THE DRIVE notes that these subscription agreements have different implications from the “Apple CarPlay” case, where paid annual subscription agreements were unpopular.
Is it possible to try before the contract?
As a benefit of moving to a subscription contract, THE DRIVE states that users who do not need these functions can save money when purchasing a vehicle.
Specifically, ACC is a convenient function for users who often encounter traffic jams in urban areas, but it is not necessary for users who live in the suburbs and rarely encounter traffic jams, so ACC can be selected, or THE DRIVE notes that being able to use it for as long as it needs is beneficial to users in terms of cost savings.
In addition, these features have a certain trial period before signing a subscription contract, and it seems that users can confirm the effect in advance.
Less than 25% of customers choose ACC in 4 series
According to Andreas Ederer, product manager for the BMW 4 Series, only 25% of customers chose ACC in the 4 Series.
