[IOS 15]Safari has changed a lot! It’s confusing at first, but it’s easy to use once you get used to it

iOS15 Public Beta

In iOS15, the design of the Safari browser has changed significantly, the tab bar has moved from the top to the bottom of the screen, and a “tab group” has been added.

Here are some impressions and points I noticed after trying Safari in the iOS15 public beta for a while.

Tab bar moves

The tab bar that used to be at the top of the screen will move down in iOS 15. When searching, tap the address part to move it up, so moving the address bar up and down seems strange at first.

Easy to operate with just your thumb

As Apple explained in the iOS 15 preview, the address bar is at the bottom of the screen, so you can go back to the previous page or go to the next page with just one thumb.

Tap the icon with three dots inside the circle to see all the different actions such as copy, text size, add bookmark, add to favorites, markup and more. You can also edit the actions to display.

The fact that actions that were previously divided into multiple icons are integrated into one icon is convenient for users like me who tend to forget the actions included in each icon.

Tab group

And another big change is the tab group. In iOS14, if you open multiple pages in Safari on iPhone and tap the tab icon (icon with two overlapping squares) at the bottom right, the currently open page will be displayed as if it is vertically overlapped.

However, if you tap the same tab icon in iOS 15, the page will appear as if you had the cards in two columns. Since each page does not overlap and you can see the whole, it is easy to find the desired page.

You can also move pages by swiping left or right while holding the address bar.
