Samsung Display, a major manufacturer of organic EL (OLED) displays for laptops, which is rumored to be used in the 2022 model 16-inch MacBook Pro, has raised its shipping target this year.

40% -50% higher than the initial target

Samsung Display had set a shipping target of 4 million OLED displays for laptops this year, but raised it to 5.5 million to 6 million, Korean media The Elec reported.

The Elec explains that the reason is that the demand for OLED displays for laptops is increasing due to the increase in work at home due to the new coronavirus infection.

Samsung Display plans to supply 1.5 million OLED displays for laptops to ASUS, 1 million to Samsung, and 500,000 to 600,000 to HP.

It also plans to supply 400,000 to 500,000 copies to Lenovo, Dell, and Xiaomi, respectively.

Will it be supplied to the MacBook series in the future?

Taiwan DigiTimes reported that in 2022, an iPad with an OLED display and a 16-inch MacBook Pro will be introduced.

Since Samsung Display is a major supplier of OLED displays for the iPhone, it seems likely that the MacBook series will be responsible for OLED displays.
