Face ID on Mac, all iPhones and iPads within a few years ~ Mr. Garman

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, known for reporting Apple-related insider information, said in his newsletter that Apple will have Face ID on Macs within the next few years and will be available on all iPhone and iPad models. It is predicted that Face ID will also be installed.

Touch ID is needed to secure cheap devices

“I think Apple’s ultimate goal is to have Face ID on every major device,” Garman said in his newsletter “Power On.”

Gurman explains that the reason Touch ID isn’t going away is to provide security for cheaper product lines such as the iPhone SE and iPad. Mac laptops also have too thin screens to embed depth sensors, he continues.

Face ID on Mac will be available within a few years

Gherman predicts that within a few years, Face ID will be available on Macs, and at the same time all iPhones and iPads will move to Face ID.

He also said that by embedding the camera in the screen of Apple’s high-end devices, it would be possible to remove the notch.

Face ID is useful for both security and augmented reality (AR), but it seems that the move to Face ID is unavoidable because Touch ID can only be used for security.
