Spotify Podcast Subscription Now Available to All Creators in the U.S.

Spotify

Spotify announced on August 24, local time, that the Potcast subscription service is now available to all creators in the United States.

Testing started in April this year

In April of this year, the company announced that it would begin testing its “podcast subscription” service as a way for creators to offer their podcast shows to listeners for a fee.

Creators can set their shows to subscribers only through the podcast distribution platform Anchor and publish them to Spotify and other platforms.

Spotify also announced that it plans to roll out its Potcast subscription service in other countries starting September 15th this year.

According to the company, creators will receive 100% of their revenue, excluding payment fees. However, after 2023 you will have to pay a 5% commission. Creators can set usage fees from three price ranges and download a list of subscriber email addresses.

Apple will start offering podcast subscriptions in June

In June, Apple launched its Apple Podcasts subscription service worldwide. Creators are required to pay 30% of their revenue in the first year and 15% in the following years. To provide the subscription service, you need to subscribe to the Apple Podcasters Program for $ 19.99 per year (¥ 2,400 in Japan).

Creators can set up subscriptions for either individual shows or a group of shows called channels that can offer multiple shows together. You can set it to freemium, which includes free programs, paid programs, and free programs with special benefits.
