Cross Marketing, a research company, announced the results of a “survey on the actual usage of smartphone app games” targeting teens to 30s. 55% of smartphone app games are played “almost every day”. We also found that half of the users weren’t playing three days after installing the app.

Survey of 1,100 smartphone app game users

The “Survey on the actual usage of smartphone app games” is conducted on the LINE research platform for men and women aged 13 to 39 who live in three prefectures (Tokyo, Chiba, Saitama, and Kanagawa).

In the screening survey (8,237 respondents), valid responses were obtained from 1,100 people who “may play smartphone app games” and “install smartphone app games within the last month”.

The frequency of playing smartphone app games, 55% is “almost every day”

When we asked all the respondents to the screening survey in their teens to 30s how often they played games on smartphone apps, 55% answered “almost every day,” which is about half. 21% of respondents said they would not play games on smartphone apps.

Looking at the frequency of game play by gender and age group, the percentage of respondents who answered “almost every day” was 13 to 15 years old for men and 35 to 39 years old for women.

How to spend leisure time, smartphone games are the top overall

As a result of asking the respondents of this survey who installed the smartphone app game within one month about their leisure time behavior, “game on smartphone” was the highest result at less than 80% overall.

Focusing on teens, males aged 16 to 19 tend to have a particularly high percentage of games, and females aged 16 to 19 tend to have a high proportion of games, SNS, and listening to music. Females aged 16 to 19 have a large number of responses of 5.59 and spend various times.

Also, since the percentage of SNS for men is lower than that for women, it can be seen that SNS debut tends to be slow.

Apps learned by word of mouth tend to be played

If you add up the reasons for installing the game app and the time when you played it most recently, the percentage of people who play after installation tends to be high for “Introduced by friends” and “Introduced by family”.

On the other hand, if “find in the app store” or “TV commercial” is the trigger, it is noticeable that the percentage of people who have not played even after installing is slightly high.

Cross Marketing speculates that if word-of-mouth installs it, they might be playing together or sharing their thoughts.

About half of the play rate on the day 3 days after installing the app

The graph below analyzes the play tendency after installation by cross-tabulating the latest installation time and the latest play time of the game application.

About 90% of game apps are played on the day of installation, but within 3 days of installation, the percentage played today drops to about half, and then the pace gradually slows down.

Purchase / billing experience is high for men aged 20 to 24

Men tend to have more experience in purchasing and billing smartphone game apps than women.

By gender, the highest percentage of purchases and charges is for men aged 20 to 24, exceeding 60%.
