Netizens from IT House have submitted a test report that the Hong Kong version of iPhone 12 is temporarily unable to use the 5G network in the dual-SIM mode of the Hong Kong carrier network. If you use SIM cards from operators such as China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom, you can support dual 5G networks.

According to the instructions, the iPhone has not yet provided eSIM functionality in mainland China. In Hong Kong and Macau, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone SE (2nd generation) and iPhone XS all provide eSIM function. Due to the “Dual SIM Dual Standby” (DSDS) technology, both SIM cards can make and receive calls.

About 5G and dual SIM card functions

IT Home is informed that the Hong Kong version of iPhone 12 also uses dual SIM cards (nano-SIM). If you use iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, or iPhone 12 Pro Max, and both cellular numbers are enabled, you cannot use the 5G function. To use 5G on these iPhone models, you need to deactivate one of the cellular numbers to turn off the dual card.

SIM card mode:

1. Open the “Settings” app, and then tap “Cellular Networks”.

2. Select the cellular number you want to deactivate.

3. Turn off the switch next to “Enable this number”.

Re-enable the cellular number and the dual SIM card mode will be restored.
