Apple’s Shazam App for Listening to Songs and Recognizing Music Breaks 200 Million Monthly Active Users

Foreign media 9to5 Mac reported that at the end of 2017, Apple acquired Shazam, a song-recognition service (the transaction was completed in 2018). Now the company announced that the app’s monthly active users have exceeded 200 million.

Shazam is available as a standalone application in the App Store and Google Play Store. It can also be used via Siri. It has recently entered the control center via iOS 14.2. (The number of 200 million does not count Siri requests as active users).

Although Apple has maintained the vitality of dedicated applications for several years after the completion of the acquisition, people also believe that Shazam technology will help realize Apple Music’s innovations, such as real-time lyrics.

In 2019, Apple Music launched a Shazam branded playlist to help users find new music that is popular on the platform.

This week, the company released a new playlist called “TOP 100 Shazams in History” to commemorate the 200 million user milestone. The viral pop song “Dance Monkey” in 2019 topped the chart with more than 36.6 million Shazams.
