Earlier this year, Google introduced the ability to track key critical information directly on Android devices. Now, Fit on the iPhone has quietly obtained the same function, just use the camera to measure your heartbeat and breathing rate.

When measuring heart rate, first place your finger on the lens of the rear camera and press lightly. You can choose to turn on the flash to improve the accuracy in a dark environment, or you can put your hands (and phone) in front of the light source.

Google is tracking “subtle changes in finger color” to approximate blood flow and using heart rate algorithms to calculate light, skin color, age, and other factors.

In addition, it can work offline and does not require a network connection. This takes about 30 seconds, and the preview and BPM will be displayed at the bottom of the screen. After finishing, you can decide whether to save vital signs to Fit.

At the same time, you can also use the front camera to track your breaths per minute. Just put your phone on a stable surface and keep your head and upper body clear and unobstructed. Then, the system will guide the user through the entire process and prompt the user to “keep still” for half a minute.

Google Fit will calculate your breathing rate through subtle chest movements, and computer vision will track tiny physical signals at the pixel level.

You can also start the measurement by going to the “Browse” tab> Vitals and scrolling down to get the same prompt. The user can set a reminder to remind to take measurements at regular intervals. Currently, devices such as iPhone (7 and above) and iPad (Pro) are supported.
