Apple faces class-action lawsuit alleging ‘false label’ for Powerbeats Pro battery life

It is reported that a recent class-action lawsuit seeks to sue Apple, alleging that the battery used in the Powerbeats Pro does not last as long as 9 hours as mentioned in Apple’s promotion.

The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on Thursday, accuses Apple of overpromising battery life on the Beats by Dre Powerbeats Pro. While Apple says it can last up to nine hours on a single charge, New York resident Alejandro Vivar says that’s not the case.

Part of the problem, according to the lawsuit, is that the earphones don’t necessarily charge properly, thanks to an allegedly poorly designed charging case, Law360 reports.

It was also suggested that the “IPX4-rated sweat and water resistance” claim was another reason related to the lawsuit. Sweat can corrode the charging contacts, Vivar said, adding that sweat damage should not be covered under the product warranty.

By not disclosing the problems with the Powerbeats Pro, Apple is said to have made more profits “at the expense of consumers.”

This isn’t Apple’s first lawsuit related to Powerbeats and performance. Previously, consumers complained about malfunctions with the Powerbeats 2 and Powerbeats 3.
