Ming-Chi Kuo: TSMC’s rumors that Apple’s iPhone 14 series orders have decreased by 10% are inconsistent with the investigation

IT House July 2 news, a report from Digitimes said that Apple’s chip supplier TSMC’s production capacity will decline in the future as the three major customers cut orders. Mass production of Apple’s iPhone 14 series has begun, but the target shipments of the first wave of 90 million units have been reduced by 10%, the report said.

In this regard, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo just expressed his opinion on Twitter. He said that the rumored 10% decrease in TSMC’s iPhone 14 orders was inconsistent with its investigation, maintaining Apple’s iPhone 14 series shipments in the second half of this year. OEMs are expected to ship about 100 million and 90 million iPhone 14 series, respectively.

Kuo also said that minor adjustments (single-digit increases/decreases) to Apple’s iPhone shipment forecasts are common, including new models before mass production. Apple typically does not significantly change its shipment forecast for new iPhones (double-digit growth/decrease) until new models are launched and actual market demand/feedback is confirmed. Apple typically delays orders rather than cuts them if supply chain issues cause major changes to the new iPhone’s pre-production schedule, and the same applies to Apple’s other products.

The previous Digitimes report also stated that in addition to Apple, AMD and Nvidia have also indicated to TSMC that they have to adjust their order planning due to the sharp drop in PC market demand and the subsidence of the “mining” boom. A total of about 20,000 7/6 nanometer orders were placed in the first quarter, and Nvidia requested to delay and reduce orders in the first quarter.

It is worth mentioning that Ming-Chi Kuo said earlier this month that demand for Apple’s upcoming iPhone 14 series models this fall may be stronger than the already popular iPhone 13 series.

According to previous reports, Apple’s iPhone 14 series this year will be divided into four models in two sizes, which is expected to bring many improvements and enhancements to everyone, such as a new “exclamation mark screen”, an upgraded front camera (which supports automatic Focus function); new rear camera, support 48 million pixel shooting and 8K video recording; new A16 chip; AOD screen display, etc. For more details, please refer to the previous report of IT House.
