Suspected of resistance from Apple, two websites offering iOS 16 beta firmware downloads have been shut down

Recently, two websites that provided download links for preview software such as Apple’s iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS Ventura and tvOS 16 have been closed, including BetaProfiles.com and IPSW.dev. Both sites are now inaccessible.

BetaProfiles.com said in a tweet that its site was shut down to avoid “a legal battle with Apple,” but it’s unclear whether the site (or IPSW.dev) has actually received any threat of legal action from Apple, or These sites are closed as a precaution. Apple, BetaProfiles.com and IPSW.dev did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

In addition, lawyers for Kilpatrick Townsend Stockton LLP, representing Apple, allegedly provided Twitter with a DMCA takedown notice involving more than a dozen tweets containing links to sites such as IPSW.dev. The attorney notice claimed the tweets infringed on Apple’s proprietary beta software. “In response to copyright owner’s report”, all listed tweets are no longer visible.

IPSW.dev provides users with access to IPSW files for iOS 16 developer betas and other pre-release Apple software, with links to download via Apple servers, file-sharing site WeTransfer, and torrents, while BetaProfiles.com provides access to beta versions Configuration files and IPSW files. BetaProfiles.com says users must be enrolled in the Apple Developer Program to download profiles to avoid this warning.

The Apple Developer Beta is only available to members of the Apple Developer Program, which costs $99 a year in the US, and Apple appears to be trying to uphold this policy by cracking down on sites like BetaProfiles.com and IPSW.dev. Users interested in trying Apple beta software for free can sign up for the Apple Public Beta Program.
