Apple today released the sixth beta version of the upcoming iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 to developers, with iOS 16 Beta 6 build number 20A5349b, seven days after the last release.
iOS 16 Beta 6 update content
The biggest change in iOS 16 Beta 6 is that some iPhone models can also display the battery percentage in low power mode.
The models that currently support iOS 16 Beta 6 display percentages are: iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max. But the iPhone 11, iPhone XR, iPhone 12 mini, and iPhone 13 mini do not display even with this version of the system.
While this isn’t a high-tech change, it’s of particular concern because the iPhone hasn’t had a battery percentage display since the iPhone X.
Apple has introduced a new lock screen design for iOS 16. Whether it is widgets, notification design, fonts and colors, you can customize with a high degree of freedom, and it will also support multiple lock screens.
Focus mode is easier to adjust than before, and you can cull things you don’t like right in the app. With the Messaging app, you can now edit or recall sent content, or mark messages as unread, and it also supports SharePlay, much like FaceTime.
The Mail app has improved search tools and also supports actions like recall. You can even set a reminder to check emails if you don’t get a response.
In addition, Apple is also working to replace passwords with Passkeys to log in to accounts, a more secure method of biometric identification.
iCloud Photo Library helps users easily share photos with other family members, and video also supports real-time text/subtitles display. Also, it has an interesting new feature where you can extract the theme from the background (with the help of Visual Lookup).
In other respects, dictation has also been improved, and the map now supports multi-stop routes, Apple has not provided you with Apple Pay Later for installment payments, and the family app has ushered in a new look.
On the iPadOS side, Apple has also added a Stage Manager feature to bring Mac-like multitasking, although it’s limited to the M1 iPad.
The iOS 16 Beta5 version adds a battery percentage display in the iPhone status bar, and also introduces a new sound setting that lets you better find your Apple Watch or locate your iPhone by sound.
There are a ton of other new features in iOS 16 and iPadOS 16. These updates will be released to the public with the official version of iOS 16 in September, when Apple will continue to release new beta versions, although iPadOS 16 may arrive later.
