Shaky walk: The iPhone can warn you!

Apple Health app logoAs you probably know, the iPhone has motion sensors that allow it to count your steps. But did you know that it can also measure your stability while walking and alert you with notifications when there is an increased risk of falling? Here we show you how you can use this health function on your iPhone.

iPhone can measure stability while walking

The iPhone is equipped with various sensors to measure various movement data. When walking it can For example, determine how fast and with what stride length you are progressing, whether your gait is asymmetrical and how your balance is. Using these parameters, the iPhone can then determine your walking stability and even warn you if there is a risk of falling. The risk of falling increases significantly with age.

The information on walking stability can be viewed in the health app under “Discover” -> “Mobility” -> “Stability when walking” and provides information about your own state of health. Apple divides walking stability into the categories “Good”, “Low” and “Very Low”. A graph shows the development of the gait pattern (positive and negative) over time. As stability decreases, so does the risk of falling. And this is where the “walking stability notifications” come into play, which want to ensure more safety.
