Ricky Mondello, software engineer at Apple, shared on social media the story behind how the new “auto-enter security code” feature in iOS 12 was created.
A groundbreaking mechanism that automates the need to hit the code by hand
The new iOS12 feature “Auto-Enter Security Code” announced at Apple ’s last year ’s World Developers Conference (WWDC18) is SMS (for mobile phone number authentication when users register for services such as apps and websites). This is a convenient mechanism that automatically fills in the code sent by (Short Mail).
What had to be manually typed in code was automated so far that it saved a lot of work. Users who have done two-factor authentication probably know how useful this feature is.
The feature works well from the day it was implemented
Apple employee Mondello (@rmondello) revealed on Twitter how “automatic security code entry” was implemented.
The idea of “automatic security code entry” came about by chance when a small group of software engineers was working on a more ambitious project.
The idea for Security Code AutoFill came out of a small group of software engineers working on what we thought was a much more ambitious project. It wasn't a PM, it wasn't just one person, and it wasn't what we set out to do initially.

As a result, the "ambitious" project was unsuccessful, but Mr. Mondello combined several different areas of expertise and started to implement "automatic security code entry". He said he was proud of the team that worked well from that day.
