Italian consumer group Altroconsumo announced on January 25, local time, that Apple has filed a class action lawsuit for deliberately degrading iPhone performance (planned obsolescence).

Demanding a large amount of compensation from Apple

According to the statement, the group will seek compensation from Apple for € 60 million on behalf of Italian consumers.

According to Altroconsumo, compensation will be paid to a total of approximately 1 million iPhone 6/6 Plus / 6s / 6s Plus users sold between 2014 and 2020.

In Belgium, Spain and Portugal

Class action proceedings have also been filed in Belgium and Spain, claiming that Apple’s performance limits introduced in iOS 10.2.1 to prevent unexpected shutdowns due to battery deterioration are “planned obsolescence.”

Euroconsumers, a European consumer group that has supported the proceedings in Italy and Belgium and Spain, said similar proceedings are expected in Portugal in the coming weeks.
