IKEA's smart blinds will be compatible with HomeKit at the beginning of the year later than originally planned

HomeKit

There are not many HomeKit compatible products that can be purchased in Japan. For this reason, it is difficult to build a smart home using only Apple's home application, but new products that can be used in the home application are likely to be added again at the beginning of the year.

Supported by software update

IKEA released smart home blinds in Japan a little later than overseas. Because this blind is compatible with Google Home, it is still possible to open and close the blinds in cooperation with other devices and the set time. HomeKit support was originally supposed to be "Fall support", but as of December 10, it was not yet supported and users were beginning to question whether it would really support fall.

In response to this question, IKEA's customer support commented “HomeKit will be supported early next year” and acknowledged the delay. The calendar fall ended in two weeks, and it was thought that it would be difficult to respond during that time. If smart blinds are compatible with HomeKit at the beginning of next year as commented by IKEA, it is true that it was late, but it seems to be within the expected range.

Expanding HomeKit compatible products

If IKEA supports smart blinds with firmware updates, naturally, products already released in Japan will be compatible with HomeKit. If that happens, one more HomeKit compatible product can be purchased in Japan. However, there are still few HomeKit compatible products that can be purchased in Japan, and I would like to expect further expansion.

HomeKit

If IKEA's smart blinds are compatible with HomeKit, they can be linked to lighting controlled by HomeKit, and can be easily linked with Siri and shortcut apps. The fact that blinds that open and close every day are compatible with HomeKit is likely to have a great significance in terms of the potential of smart homes.
