Taiwan Media Economic Daily reports that China’s BOE will become a major supplier of organic EL (OLED) displays for the iPhone 13 (also iPhone 12s), which is expected to be released this year.

BOE technology level is on par with Korean manufacturers

According to the Economic Daily, BOE is working with the General Interface Solution (GIS) under the umbrella of Hon Hai Group, which manufactures touch panels, to develop OLED panels for the iPhone.

BOE initially planned to supply a considerable number of OLED displays for the iPhone 12 series, but it is said that it actually started supplying at the end of last year because it failed to meet the quality standards required by Apple. However, according to the Daily Economic Report, the supply of BOE remains low.

However, BOE’s technology level is rising to Samsung and LG levels, and for this year’s iPhone 13 series, the company’s OLED panel supply will increase significantly and it will be promoted to a major supplier, Economic Daily reports.

Preparing for iPhone 13

In addition, BOE is preparing the production system of the B11 factory in Mianyang City, which manufactures only products for Apple, in preparation for the increase in demand for OLED panels in the iPhone 13 series.

At least some models in the iPhone 13 series are rumored to have a low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) display, low power consumption, and a 120Hz refresh rate.
