It has been reported that Macs with M1 chips may be writing data to SSDs due to abnormal swapping, which may affect their lifespan.
Will it reach the end of its life in half a year?
In the most serious case of MacBook with M1 chip, it is said that it has already consumed 10% to 13% of the total write amount (TBW: Tera Byte Written) of SSD.
SSDs using flash memory have a fixed TBW, but developer Hector Martin said that if the abnormal consumption occurring on a Mac with an M1 chip is correct information, it could reach TBW in just half a year. Mr. reports.
However, Martin seems to think it’s due to a bug.
Just to be clear: This is definitely a bug. It’s software. It’s macOS behavior. It can be fixed.
If Apple fixes this now, we’re going to be fine.
I’m working on getting this reported.

The SSD is soldered to the logic board and cannot be replaced, so it is expected to be fixed in the macOS Big Sur update.
M1 Mac SSD update…
Apple, this is NOT okay. Especially as the internal SSD isn’t replaceable. The machine is just a bit over 2 months old. Pic.twitter.com/xqlSMjxwTa
