iPhone 6s 16 GB – Storage management tricks

iPhone 6s 16 GB - Storage management tricksThe iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are the last iPhones with a memory size of 16 GB. In the age of 4K videos and tons of photos on the iPhone, the small memory is quickly full. With a few tricks, 16 gigabytes of storage space are enough, and the nice side effect: You can save around 100 or 200 euros if you choose the 16 GB model!

iPhone 6s 16 GB

Before we look at the actual tricks, you should know that the 16 GB models (and of course all other models) do not have nearly 16 gigabytes of storage space, as iOS also requires space. The bottom line of an iPhone 6s with 16 gigabytes is around 10 to 12 gigabytes of actual storage space.

Those who are still not ready to use the models with larger memory can get by with the following tricks with 16 gigabytes …

Avoid large apps

Avoid large appsIf you pack a lot of large apps on a 16 GB iPhone, you will quickly reach storage limits. It is therefore advisable to check from time to time which memory-heavy apps are installed and to delete them if necessary. You do this in the settings under “General” → “iPhone storage”. There you will find all installed apps, sorted in descending order by size. To delete large apps, tap them and then select “Delete app”.

It is best to check in advance how big an app is, and then decide whether you need it or want to install it.

Use lower video resolution

All iPhones from the iPhone 6s have a 12 megapixel camera that can record impressive 4K videos. However, you should consider that a minute in 4K resolution requires around 375 megabytes of storage space – a medium-sized disaster for 16 GB models! Therefore, you should either download 4K videos to your computer regularly and delete them on the iPhone, or lower the resolution in the settings.

Use lower video resolution

Use iCloud

Use iCloudIn order to relieve your local iPhone storage space, it is also recommended to outsource data to iCloud. You should be interested in the fact that Apple provides 5 GB of iCloud storage space for every iPhone user free of charge. For just 0.99 euros per month, this can even be expanded to a whopping 50 gigabytes.

You should also ask yourself the question of whether you can do without the (admittedly cool) feature “Live Photos”. The animated Live Photos take up twice the storage space compared to normal photos!

Incidentally, the “Files” app (formerly iCloud Drive) is available for easier management of the files in iCloud. To do this, you must first activate your iCloud Drive on the iPhone.
