Apple’s proprietary Apple Silicon M1 chip is currently found in the 13-inch MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and Mac mini, and the iMac with the M1 chip hasn’t appeared yet. YouTuber Luke Miani said, “I can’t wait for the iMac with the M1 chip,” and started working on the iMac with Apple silicon on its own.

Use iMac as an HDMI display on your Mac mini with a conversion board

Miani disassembled the parts of the 27-inch iMac (2011) by referring to the iFixit disassembly guide, which is known for disassembling Apple products. This iMac is a model before the redesign, and it is not a specification that the side of the display becomes slim.

The modification that Miani made this time is to use the iMac as an external display, the Apple Cinema Display. He researched and found a conversion board that could turn the iMac into an HDMI display.

If you take the parts inside the iMac and replace them with those of the Mac mini, you’ll see that the Mac mini parts occupy much less space than the iMac.

Miani calls the resulting modified iMac the “world’s first” iMac with an M1 chip.

Is the new iMac coming soon?

There was a report at the end of February that some of the current 21.5-inch iMacs couldn’t be ordered, and it was rumored that it might be a sign of a new iMac.

It was reported that some 21.5-inch iMac 4K models were discontinued in March. Regarding this, the US media AppleInsider commented, “It may be a precursor to the appearance of the new iMac,” and expectations for the release of the iMac equipped with the M1 chip are rising.
