You know that: your iPhone is on the table, you get a message and the display lights up. Not every message is intended for other eyes. We'll show you how to protect your privacy and not show iPhone messages in the lock screen. By the way, you can also re-enable iMessage messages in the lock screen the same way.
Tip: In another post, we'll show you how to disable the preview of WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger messages in the lock screen.

Do not show iPhone messages in the lock screen
If you receive a message, say an iMessage, it usually looks like this:
Not only the sender can be seen – regardless of whether or not you've set up a code lock – but also the message itself. Or at least part of it, depending on the length of the message.
Settings → Messaging → Messaging (or Mail) → Show Preview → Never
If you do not want to display messages on your iPhone in the lock screen, first open the "Settings" app. Click on "Messages" and scroll down to the point "Messages". Go to the bottom of the entry "Show previews" and click on it.
Then tap Never to disable the message preview in the lock screen. The message preview is disabled not only on the lock screen, but also in the message center and in banners.
If you receive a message now, it looks like this:
Instead of the message text (or a received picture), only the message type will be displayed, in this case iMessage. In the same way, you can also disable the preview for mails in the lock screen. But you do not go into the settings of the news app, but in the mail app. To read the message now, you need to unlock your iPhone first.
Show messages in iPhone lock screen
Settings → Messaging → Messaging (or Mail) → Show Preview → Always
Of course, you can also undo the whole thing. To display messages again in the lock screen, simply select "Always" under the "Show preview" option. And already all messages or mails appear on the iPhone Lockscreen.
Tip: In another article, we'll show you how to disable or minimize the message center in the lock screen.
