So just how fast is the 32 core GPU on the M1 Max MacBook Pro and how fast is compared to an Nvidia RTX 3080 Mobile GPU?
In Apple’s technical information and their Apple Event October 18 2021, they show graphs explaining the graphics performance of the 32 core M1 Max GPU. Now when I say explain, it’s by way of some graphs that do look quite vague and almost seem random, with Apple using the term Scary Fast to describe the processing power 🙂
Anyway, if you look at the release notes and addendums for the graphs. Apple explain that the M1 Max 32 core GPU of the MacBook Pro using 32GB of unified memory, was being compared to an MSI GE76 Raider (11UH-053) and a Razer Blade 15 Advanced (RZ09-0409CE53-R3U1). Now both of these computers are Windows gaming laptops that have the Nvidia RTX 3080 Mobile GPU with 16GB of DDR6 RAM.
So basically, Apple were comparing the M1 Max 32 core GPU vs the Nvidia RTX 3080 Mobile GPU and the results were quite mind blowing as far as the M1 Max MacBook Pro graphics processing was concerned.
Anyway. It looks like gaming on the M1 Max MacBook Pro 32 core GPU could be amazing and it could be a gaming beast if there were a proper selection of AAA games available on MacOS.
