For a long time I was technically on the iPad in the Stone Age. My 12.9 iPad from 2018 has accompanied me over the past few years. Through an acceptable deal through my mobile operator, I then invested in the 12.9-inch iPad Pro with an M1 chip (2021). At the beginning I was more than skeptical, especially about the giant display and the associated design. In the meantime I can say that the iPad Pro 12.9 has developed for me from a device purely for “consuming” to a tablet that I also work productively with. Researching my videos can be done comfortably from the couch. With this knowledge in mind, I’m finally ready to bite the bullet (Warning, pun;)) and invest another almost 400 euros in the Magic Keyboard. I struggled with myself for a long time. In addition to the not inconsiderable weight, the enormous price was the decisive factor. For this reason I am extremely critical of this keyboard. Especially since there is an alternative solution from Logitech that is very good in my opinion. Specifically, I’m talking about the Logitech Combo Touch. After my first experiences after unboxing, I can say that I also ordered the Logitech keyboard in order to be able to better compare the two variants with each other. The Magic Keyboard is by no means free of defects. Typing on the keyboard is a real pleasure. Also the operation of the touchpad. Unfortunately, there are no iPad OS-specific function keys (the Logitech variant has that). In addition – and this is one of my biggest criticisms – the frame of the iPad on the Magic Keyboard is unprotected. If you want to use the iPad without a keyboard, you have it completely unprotected in your hand. In my opinion, this is better solved with the Logitech variant (in theory). I will now continue to test in the next few days and then also try the Logitech variant. Of course I am happy to take you on this trip.
