1) SECURITY VULNERABILITY:
– attackers target old OS versions because they already cracked some of its vulnerabilities
2) BUGGY APPS
– Most apps nowadays are optimized for the newer Android and iOS versions
– This is also related to ram and processing power requirements
3) SOME APPS MAY NOT SUPPORT YOUR ANDROID OS or iOS version:
– some apps only work on the latest versions of Android and iOS versions.
– this is often true for banking and other financial apps.
4) MISSING NEW FEATURES & LATEST OPTIMIZATION:
– New updates often have additional small features and optimizations
– OS upgrades have more additional optimizations and sometimes even new features
– OS upgrades could also deliver new UI and new experience
5) PERFORMANCE BOOST
– “SOME” updates boosts performance of the phone but NOT ALWAYS the case
HOW TO KNOW IF YOUR PHONE HAS A NEW UPDATE?
– Typically, updates are shown in the notification of your device
– If not, feel free to check your device SETTINGS – SYSTEM – UPDATE
– If you can’t find any update, it is likely that your device has been abandoned by the manufacturer or you need more patience to wait.
– If your device is already abandoned by the manufacturer, you may opt in to use a Custom ROM.
THINGS TO DO BEFORE UPDATING YOUR PHONE:
– Make sure the battery is at 50% or more charge.
– Best if you just plug in your phone to a charger first in case your battery is not reliable anymore
– Do not touch your phone as soon as the update starts
– Do not turn it off or anything. Let the phone finish updating and let it reboot by itself after the update is done.
NOTE:
– Updating your phone will not delete any of your data or files from your phone.
– Still, it is a better idea to backup your files, contacts, and documents
– Some updates can cause bootloop or some unexpected error.
– SOMETIMES, upgrades degrade battery and overall system performance
