I have been using the Apple M2 MacBook Air for the past 4 months. Today I am going to share with you my long term experience with the M2 Air and why I think this MacBook is almost perfect. If you’re thinking of getting the M2 MacBook Air, this video will cover everything you need to know! My Spec, base model. Price $1199 or £1249, $200 or £249 more than M1 Air. 8 core CPU, 8 core GPU, 8GB unified memory, 256GB SSD. I would upgrade SSD to 500GB, worth it in the long run. Colour Midnight, looks great. Black in dark environments, dark blue in light. But is a fingerprint magnet! If you like your tech to look clean, go for the lighter Starlight or Silver. Still, from a durability perfective, the Midnight colour has held up well. The design of M2 Air is modern and sharp with flat edges and I love it! At 11mm thin and 2.7 pounds, it is a joy to carry and take on the go, great if you’re a student going between classes, or travel often. From a build perspective, the M2 Air is rock solid. I really enjoy MagSafe to charge, is magnetic so will auto unplug. M2 Air is equipped with 2 USB C thunderbolt ports and a headphone port. Scissor switch keyboard: enough travel, clicky feedback. Touch ID great to quickly login. Trackpad is big and best in class. 1080p webcam, does the job, mics are impressive, good for zoom calls. Speakers too are surprisingly good. M2 Air had a fan-less design. No moving parts, good for durability, and means silent operation. 13.6” Liquid Retina display, 13.3” larger than M1. 60hz, unlike the even smoother 120hz on M1 Pro MacBook Pro. The M2 Air’s display 500 nits, bright enough for any indoors setting. Rounded corners, thinner bezels and the notch, allow for a bigger display in body that is no bigger than previous MacBook Air. This display is fantastic to use, the best I’ve seen at this price. What is the performance like? M2 chip, 1.4x times faster than previous M1 chip. I typically have 8-12 apps open at all times, and it runs great. To my surprise, the 8GB of ram was just fine. Yes 16GB would be even better, but I never found myself needing more. As a content creator, I use FCP everyday and FCP runs well, I’ve edited multiple videos entirely on the M2 Air. Exporting a 10 minute 4K project took just over 6 mins, not far the M1 Pro MacBook Pro. When it came to rendering and upscaling the difference in performance between the M2 MacBook Air and M1 Pro MacBook Pro is more clear. Still, for a laptop as thin and light as the M2 Air, not to mention significantly more lower cost compared to the M1 Pro MacBook Pro, I find these results to be really impressive! With all this performance, how is the battery life?
Apple M2 chip not just powerful but also power efficient. I can easily use it all-day with mixed use, again 8-12 apps open, with 30% remaining. If you’re someone who needs a portable laptop, with incredible battery life, great modern design and performance that will more than deliver for regular productivity tasks, but that can also handle the occasional video/photo editing, then the M2 MacBook Air is the one to get and is a excellent laptop! Just think twice about that Midnight colour, and especially if you do any creative work, get the 512GB model – it will be worth it in the long run, trust me.
