The US court issued a “permanent injunction” on Apple in September, requiring the App Store to open other payment channels within 90 days and not only use Apple’s own system. “Bloomberg” reported that U.S. District Court Judge Yvonne Gonzales Roger stated that Apple’s application is a selective reading of the court’s ruling, ignoring the content of the ruling in support of the injunction, and the claim has a fundamental deficiency. Apple’s lawyer explained that the process of adding the additional payment system to the App Store is difficult and requires more processing time. However, the judge is not convinced that any Apple lacks credible evidence to convince the court that the ban will cause damage.
According to Bloomberg’s estimates, in the worst case, Apple may lose $2-40 billion in rake revenue, which is currently as high as 30%.
Compared with Apple, Google has chosen to set a precedent in South Korea, allowing developers to use payment channels other than the Play Store, and simultaneously reducing the percentage of fees by 4%. However, Google also emphasized that the security systems that the Play Store can provide, such as parental control, payment methods, subscription management and other functions, will not support non-Google payment channels.
