Unlock Bootloader & Root Your Nothing Phone (1)

Just a helpful guide for unlocking the bootloader and rooting your Nothing Phone (1) using magisk.

Requirements & Important Notes –
1. A PC or a Laptop
2. Platform tools & Android USB drivers installed
3. Full backup of your storage
4. Unlocking your bootloader compromises of your phone’s security and also the data stored in it.

Installation Guide – (cmd commands have been underlined)
1. On your Nothing Phone (1), go to Settings – About phone – Software info – Tap on build number 7 times. This will enable Developer options.
2. Now go back to Settings menu – go to System – Developer Options – Turn on OEM Unlocking and USB Debugging.
3. Connect your Phone (1) to PC.
4. Go to the extracted platform tools folder and copy the path. Open the same path in cmd where platform tools are present.
5. Type a command – adb devices. It will open a popup on your phone. Give Android Debugging permissions.
6. Now type adb reboot bootloader to boot into fastboot or bootloader mode.
7. After booting into the fastboot mode, type fastboot devices to check if device is succesfully connected or not. It will show a random serial code and will say fastboot.
8. Now type, fastboot flashing unlock. This will open a new screen on your phone. Choose yes to go ahead which will format all your data and unlock your bootloader.
9. Now your device will boot and you’ll have to setup it again.
10. Congratulations your bootloader has been unlocked. You can check it again via Developer options, it will show Bootloader is already unlocked under OEM unlocking option.
11. Now moving towards rooting your device, you’ll need to patch the boot.img which matches your NothingOS current version. (Check links below and only patch accordingly)
12. My Phone (1) was running 1.1.4 so I patched the boot.img extracted from NothingOS 1.1.4 and flashed it using fastboot.
13. Install and open Magisk app on your Phone (1). Choose install – Choose patch boot image option and choose the correct boot.img matching your firmware version. (I already have 1.1.4 magisk patched boot.img so you can use it if you guys are on the same version.)
14. Copy the patched boot.img from your phone to your PC where the platform tools are install.
15. Boot your Phone (1) into fastboot mode to flash the patched boot.img.
16. Open cmd, type fastboot flash boot magisk_patched-boot.img. (The word boot here might be replaced with some random keywords and numbers so please copy that filename. You can also rename it for some ease.)
17. Now reboot your device using the command – fastboot reboot.
18. Congratulations your Phone (1) is not succesfully rooted using Magisk. You can confirm the root access status via Root checker app.
