Google is about to enhance the usefulness of the “Lock Screen” for Pixel phones. The latest Android 14 system will provide widgets similar to the iPhone and allow users to set shortcut functions by themselves.

Developer Mishaal Rahman discovered in the latest Android 14 beta version code that Google is adding a system UI interface labeled “widget_on_keyguard”, which is suspected of planning to add gadgets to the lock screen. For example, Apple’s iOS system allows users to add battery, clock, calendar and other functions, and can view multiple information without unlocking the screen.

In the past, there would be a shortcut button on the left and right sides below the lock screen. In the native Android system, the default settings were voice assistant and camera activation, which could not be changed. However, foreign media “9to5google” pointed out that in the future, Google will allow users to set their own settings. According to the information leaked from the program code, the options provided include camera, do not disturb mode, flashlight, Home App, silent mode, QR code scanning, video recording, wallet, etc. function.

At present, both functions are exclusive to Pixel phones. It is not yet certain whether Google will open them to other Android phones. They are still in the testing stage and the official launch time has yet to be officially confirmed.
