Google Pixel 8 debuts eSIM card transfer function for the first time! You can also turn physical cards into virtual ones

As Apple iPhone gradually abandons physical SIM cards in North America and switches to virtual eSIM, the Android camp will also follow this wave! Recently, foreign media discovered that Google Pixel 8 is equipped with an eSIM card transfer function for the first time, and can also convert a physical SIM card to an eSIM.

Developer Mishaal Rahman shared that after the Pixel 8 series was officially launched, someone has successfully transferred the eSIM card on the Pixel 7 Pro directly to the Pixel 8 Pro. In addition, you can also convert the existing physical SIM card into an eSIM card. There is no need to apply to a telecom provider for the entire process, and it only requires simple operations through the built-in process of the phone. It is the first Android phone to achieve this feature.

However, the transfer of eSIM still depends on whether telecom operators support it. Foreign media have measured that the ones currently successful are T-Mobile in the United States and Deutsche Telekom in Europe. In Taiwan, even iPhones are still not open for eSIM transfer. People have to go to Telecom to apply. If they do not meet certain conditions, they will be charged a setup fee of 300 yuan.
