Google announces December’s “Feature Push”! It brings a series of new features to its Pixel phones. It not only unlocks the video enhancer and night vision video featured on Pixel 8, but also turns the phone into a computer video lens. The transcription function officially supports Chinese.
Exclusive upgrade for Pixel 8 Pro
With the debut of the new AI model Gemini, Google has taken the lead in unlocking 2 exclusive features for Pixel 8 Pro. The recording tool can summarize the content with one click, even without an Internet connection. Using the developer preview version of Gboard, you can activate the smart reply function, which is the first to support Whatsapp. It can provide reply suggestions based on the messages received by users, saving typing time. Both of the above features only support English at first, and are currently only available on the Pixel 8 Pro that supports Gemini nano.

Pixel 8 Pro will also receive the video enhancer previously announced at the launch, which will upload recorded videos to cloud computing to further adjust color, brightness, stability and grain. It will also support night vision videos, bringing exclusive features to the video recording function for the first time. Night shooting mode can suppress video noise in low-light shooting. Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro simultaneously support night vision mode for time-lapse recording. The phone can be used to capture night sky images when paired with a photography tripod or fixed on a stable table.
Google’s photo retouching skills evolve again
With the update, Google also brings a series of AI photo editing evolutions. For example, Google Photos’ “Portrait Lighting” can remove the strong contrast between light and dark in the photo, re-correct the brightness, and allow your portrait photos to determine the direction of the light source by themselves. If you are taking photos of furry children, Google Photos has enhanced the “blur repair” function, which allows fast-moving blurred cat and dog photos to become clear with one click, and also supports the function of refocusing the face and background.
Many people are accustomed to using their cameras to record documents, receipts or details. If there is dirt or creases that cannot be seen clearly, the Pixel phone can turn on the “clear function” in the camera. You only need to use a brush to wipe away the stains, so that The picture becomes clearer.

Pixel recording and video recording are more practical
Pixel’s built-in recording tool has a transcription function that can convert speech content into verbatim transcripts. It originally only supported English, but is now officially available in Traditional Chinese, so meeting minutes no longer need to be re-typed into verbatim transcripts. Subsequent models, including Pixel 6, can also be connected to a computer via a USB cable to replace the original video lens, bringing higher-quality images. Google will also add a new set of desktop gadgets that can display time, weather, and forecasts.
In terms of security, Google’s password management tool can automatically identify which accounts support password keys, simplifying new steps and processes. The newly added “repair mode” allows users to protect their data from being leaked when sending their equipment for repair.
In an update later this month, the Pixel Watch will be able to quickly unlock nearby Pixel phones without having to use fingerprint or facial recognition. And the first-generation Pixel Watch also gains some second-generation features, including the ability to synchronize zero-disturbance and bedtime mode settings, and a new look.
