The new generation of Qi2 wireless charging standard is officially on the road, and related charging stands are on sale one after another. Currently, the only mobile phone that can support Qi2 is the Apple iPhone. When will Android follow suit? According to the analysis of the foreign media “9to5google”, ASUS has the opportunity to become the first.
First, let’s get to know Qi2 wireless charging. This is a universal charging standard jointly developed by Apple and the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). Therefore, even Android and third-party accessories manufacturers can use it. The biggest feature is that it is based on the previous generation of Qi wireless charging, plus Apple’s MagSafe magnetic technology can more accurately align the charging ring and improve the efficiency of wireless charging, and Android and iPhone will be able to use a series of MagSafe accessories.
Currently, Qi2 is only supported by iPhone 13, iPhone 14, and iPhone 15. The brand that the Android camp is sure to follow is Google. It has been revealed in a statement from the Wireless Charging Alliance that it is expected that future Pixel phones will also use Qi2 specifications. However, the next generation If we look at the launch schedule of previous years, the Pixel 9 will have to wait until at least October to be launched.
So who will be the first to grab the top spot? “9to5google” pointed out that since the Qi2 standard has only been officially completed recently, it is expected that the Galaxy S24 released by Samsung this month will not be able to catch up. Currently, the news does not show that the Galaxy S24 will support Qi2. Therefore, judging from the time, the most likely one is to grab it. Perhaps the most popular one in the Android camp is ASUS Zenfone 10. It was only launched in July last year, giving it enough time to follow up on the Qi2 standard. However, Asus has not yet confirmed the relevant rumors, and the actual details will not be revealed until the new Zenfone is released.
