Are Taiwan’s 4G and 5G internet speeds fast enough? Opensignal recently announced the “2024 Global User Mobile Network Experience Awards Report”, which lists a number of network experience rankings. The most intuitive download speed is still more than double that of South Korea, which ranks first.
Opensignal mainly divides all countries into first-category markets and second-category markets based on the size of the market’s geographical area (with specific operating areas), and Taiwan is classified into the second-category market (the market’s geographical area is less than 200,000 square kilometers). , in the same group are 40 countries including neighboring South Korea and Singapore.
In terms of “download speed experience”, only Chunghwa Telecom in Taiwan ranked 15th with a score of 73.6Mbps. Currently, both companies in this category are taken care of by Korea Telecom, namely SK telecom and KT. The average speed is over 140Mbps. In addition, Chunghwa Telecom and Taiwan Mobile also scored 69.9 and 69.8 respectively in “Audio and Video Experience”, ranking 12th in the second category of markets. In terms of “4G/5G connection time”, Taiwan Mobile and Far EasTone Telecom are tied for 11th place, while Chunghwa Telecom is tied for 18th place.
In the remaining items, such as “voice experience”, “upload speed experience”, “stability” and other items, the three major domestic players failed to reach the top of the group. However, Opensignal still points out that the overall performance of Taiwanese companies is higher than that of most companies in other markets.
