According to the latest news, the new Xperia series phones that Sony is expected to launch this year will have software update support for five years, which will be at least two years longer than the current two years for operating system updates and three years for security updates.
Japanese media quoted anonymous tipsters as saying that Sony’s Xepria smartphone, launched in 2024, will receive five years of software support. This means that the mobile phone will continue to receive software update support five years after it is launched. However, it did not clearly state that the Android operating system version of the mobile phone can be upgraded for up to 5 years. Instead, it is expected that after the Xperia mobile phone is launched this year, the number of security updates provided in the future may be extended from the current 3 years to 5 years. .
The above-mentioned rumors have not been officially confirmed by Sony. It is rumored that the new generation of three-lens flagship mobile phone Xperia 1 VI will be launched this year and will be unveiled as soon as May.
For reference, when Google launched its flagship series Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro last year, it provided the mobile phones with 7 years of software support, including operating system updates, security update support and feature push. Samsung’s three flagship S24 series models launched in January this year all have 7 years of operating system updates and 7 years of security updates.
